Once the patient has arrived home, there are still a few requirements necessary to aid recovery. Complete rest of the eyes is important. This means no reading, watching television or looking at a computer screen for a day or two. It is also important that the eyes are kept free from dust or dirt particles or anything that could get lodged in the eye. Often provided are protective glasses, to be worn for at least a few days after the operation in order to help prevent dust from getting in the eye.

completely and during that time, bright lights and glare from the television can cause irritation to the eyes. The best action to take is to sit somewhere slightly dark and avoid rubbing the eyes which could interfere with the healing process. Swimming is out of the question for a while as are any other sports. Patients should avoid water altogether for several days following a surgical eye procedure which means no face washing for a few days and showering extremely carefully.

By following the instructions and advice given at the hospital, there is very little chance that recovery will take longer than a day or two. The patient’s vision should return quickly and post-surgery complications or infections are extremely rare and often only minor. Occasionally there may be difficulties with bright lights or the glare from the sun but this should pass quickly.

After the procedure there will be a period of recovery time to be taken at the hospital before being able to go home. This provides an opportunity for the eye doctors to check that the surgery was a success and no complications have arisen. The patient will be required to visit the eye hospital one last time a few days after surgery for a quick check on the healing process and discuss progress.
